Supercharged Ford Mustang
Miles Wagoner campaigned this 2016 Ford Mustang GT in the National Mustang Racers Association (NMRA) Super Stang class in 2018. The 5.0L engine is basically stock with an Edelbrock E-Force Supercharger tuned by Triangle Speed Shop in Orange, Texas. After a six-event season, Wagoner finished second overall in points with two final-round appearances and one event win.

The 2018 season was an exceptional one for many drag racers running Edelbrock performance parts. From NHRA Finals champion Steve Wann who drove his “Mr. 413” 1962 Plymouth Sport Fury to a Super Stock final-round victory fueled by a pair of Edelbrock carburetors with the new annular-flow booster rings, to the eight new NMCA/NMRA class champions (see the story here) that all have a combination of Edelbrock cylinder heads, intake manifolds, nitrous kits, or carbs under the hood, the most respected name in performance was well represented on the quarter-mile.

The Texas license plate reads “E4C WON” to let you know that you’ve been outrun by an Edelbrock E-Force Supercharger that’s putting more than 700 horsepower to the ground.

In spite of the many outstanding performers who win with Edelbrock parts, there was one racer in particular who stood out to us. On any given weekend at any drag strip in the US, we can scope out dozens if not hundreds of trick setups using Edelbrock heads, manifolds and carbs. But what sets Miles Wagoner and his 2016 Ford Mustang apart from the crowd is his choice of forced induction system: an Edelbrock E-Force Supercharger. The Mustang runs in NMRA’s Super Stang class which permits any power adder or engine modification so it’s good to see that Wagoner doesn’t just compete with his E-Force-powered GT, but he wins with it, too.

A peek under the hood of Wagoner’s hood reveals a clean installation of the Edelbrock Supercharger. The E-Force TVS R2650 kit is one of Edelbrock’s best-selling products for 50-state emissions-legal street use and it’s good to see the setup making its way to the drag strip in winning fashion.

At the 2018 NMRA Superbowl of Street-Legal Drag Racing, Wagoner drove his SS/T Mustang past a tough Super Stang field to win the event over Marvin Knack. Knack, the toughest competitor in the Super Stang class, was crowned the 2018 NMRA SS Champion with 2,840 points, but Wagoner was close behind with 2,400 points to earn the Super Stang runner-up spot.

Wagoner runs in NMRA Super Stang on DOT Race Star wheels and MT tires.

Once you get past the bold red-on-black graphics of Wagoner’s Mustang that flies the Race Star Wheels banner on its flanks, the stock-bodied 2016 GT gives no indication of what he’s packing under the Anderson Composites hood, unless of course, you notice those E-Force Superchargers decals placed prominently around the car.

NMRA SST Mustang of Miles Wagoner
The supercharged engine with TSS-tune has been dyno’d at 747 ft-lbs of rear-wheel torque, making hard launches like this possible. Per NMRA, all SST cars must run DOT wheels and tires tucked into unaltered wheel wells.

The 5.0L engine features an Edelbrock Supercharger Kit with the latest TVS R2650 rotor set and DW 95lb injectors flowing E85. Other engine-related parts include a JMS FuelMax booster, Triangle Speed Shop oil pump gears and crank sprocket, Kooks LT headers, and Borla Sport cat-back mufflers, all working in unison with a tune by TSS’s Daniel Pachar. On the TSS dyno, Pachar has been able to make an impressive 717 horsepower and 747 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheels, allowing Wagoner to clock a best ET of 9.83 seconds at 143mph.

Krystie Wagoner 2013 Ford Mustang GT
A new job at Roush necessitates some major changes in Wagoner’s Mustang for 2019, but maybe we’ll see the current winning setup make its way onto his wife Krystie’s 2013 Mustang GT. Krystie runs in NMRA’s Ford Muscle class and was nominated for Driver of the Year, Rookie Season in 2018.

Wagoner purchased the Mustang with a manual that suffered from a power overload late last year. The breakage was the perfect opportunity for TSS to swap in an OEM 6R80 automatic, which is what the car runs now with 1,400hp half-shafts and a full BMR suspension.
