Every year, the Grand National F100 Show transforms the charming towns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, into a haven for vintage Ford truck enthusiasts. This year’s event, which took place from May 16 to 19, was a spectacle of over 1,200 trucks from 1989 and earlier converging in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. It was also an annual pilgrimage for four close friends to etch more lifetime memories amidst this sea of classic Ford trucks. The adventure is a testament to the camaraderie and shared passion that makes the Grand National F100 Show the largest classic Ford truck event.

Let The Adventure Begin
Our adventure began with a breathtaking drive from Jackson, Mississippi, to the Great Smoky Mountains. We had been eagerly planning this journey since last year’s show, and it has now become an annual tradition for us, spanning four years. The excitement grew as we neared the winding mountain roads and valleys that led us straight into the heart of Pigeon Forge. The rolling hills and lush forests provided a stunning backdrop, setting the stage for an unforgettable event.
Our arrival at the new venue site on a late Wednesday evening was not without its share of challenges. Despite a month’s preparation for the trucks, our trailers didn’t fare as well as we had hoped. But we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. We had to swap some tires once we unloaded, but we were determined to make the most of our time here. As we checked into our cabin, perched high atop the Smokey Mountains, we took a moment to breathe and prepare for an exciting F100 weekend.

F100 Show Trucks
After a super hearty breakfast of pancakes, of course, we made our way to the main event. The show featured a diverse range of Ford trucks sprawled across acres, with a pristine mountain landscape as the backdrop. From near-perfect stock models to wildly creative custom builds, it was a feast for the eyes of Ford F100 truck lovers.
As we strolled through the rows of paint and patina, we were not just admiring the trucks but the dedication and hard work that went into each one. The custom paint jobs and creative modifications were a testament to the ingenuity of each owner, and the stories behind each vehicle only added to their charm. Every truck had a history, and every owner was eager to share their journey of restoration and customization, inspiring us with their passion and commitment.

F100 Swap Meet
One of the biggest highlights of the Grand National F100 Show was the expansive swap meet. The vast swathe of Ford truck parts (and actual trucks for sale) took up nearly a football field or more. Vendors across the country set up shop, offering everything from rare parts to vintage memorabilia. We couldn’t leave without finding a few gems for ourselves as a quick manual swap project on one of our trucks entered our brains. Thanks to the available selection, we found most of the needed parts.

Inside the LeConte Convention Center, even more vendors showcased the latest in automotive technology and accessories for Ford Trucks, plus tools, accessories, memorabilia, and more. This area allowed manufacturers to talk directly with enthusiasts while offering excellent advice and direct sales, many with heavy show discounts. From custom truck frames to performance upgrades showcasing phenomenal custom builders, this area is a must-see at least twice to ensure you see everything.

Camaraderie
While we could have been like most people by sitting back and soaking in all the sights, we decided to make our trip a little more complex with a small challenge. Zack has a vintage motorcycle that he typically shows in the bed of his truck. Though the bike had been running and driving weeks before the show, unfortunately, it had a catastrophic engine failure.
So, instead of just sitting around in a lawn chair, we decided to do what any good gearhead would do and executed a motor swap in the parking lot during the show. Yes, a motor swap in the parking lot, under our tent, right in the middle of the show. Thankfully, the bike cooperated, and within a few hours, we had a running and driving motorcycle — another memory made with good friends.

Truck Cruise
Throughout the show, we were embraced by a vibrant community of enthusiasts. We all connected over shared interests and gleaned wisdom from the expertise of seasoned Ford truck builders. The sense of camaraderie was one of the most heartwarming I have ever experienced, and the atmosphere was charged with excitement and passion.

The anticipation for the infamous truck cruise grew as the sun began to set Friday evening. This tradition brought together hundreds of trucks for a breathtaking drive through the Great Smoky Mountains. The convoy snaked through the scenic byways, headlights cutting through the twilight, engines rumbling in unison along mountain streams and rivers.
The cruise was a great experience. The mountains were filled with camaraderie among the drivers. It was infectious, with waves and honks exchanged along the route. The sheer joy of driving through such a beautiful terrain, surrounded by fellow enthusiasts, was an unforgettable experience.

Until Next Year
As the weekend came to a close, we reflected on our time at the Grand National F100 Show during the final evening at our cabin in the mountains. We had come to celebrate our love for classic Ford trucks but left with much more — a new project, valuable knowledge, inspiration for new builds, and a trove of cherished memories.
The Smoky Mountains of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg provided the perfect setting for an unforgettable adventure. The Grand National F100 Show was not just an event. For four great friends, it was also a memorable journey that will live in our hearts forever. We left the Smoky Mountains with a promise to return next year with our hearts and heads full and our trucks ready for the next adventure.
