On September 10th, Lizzy Musi and her 1969 Chevy Camaro “Bonnie,” the Edelbrock 555-powered Street Outlaw Camaro, crashed at the Tucson Dragway in Tucson, Arizona. Fast forward to October 5th, and the Pat Musi Racing Engines team announced that Bonnie is back.

“Bonnie is back! Robert Hayes and his team repaired the car in just two weeks. Lizzy Musi, Pat, and the whole team are thrilled with how it turned out. Hayes took the opportunity to lighten the car and make a few other changes during the repair, including a revamped nose. Lizzy and the Edelbrock Performance/Lucas Oil “Bonnie” ’69 Camaro will be back on track at Street Outlaws No Prep Kings at Rockingham Dragway!”

Scary Situation

When Lizzy pulled up to the left lane of the track in the middle of the desert on that fateful day, with mom and dad dutifully helping on the starting line, the crowd was left in shock when the Camaro pulled toward the center line, then quickly zipped back left into the wall. Lizzy still won, but she was taken to the hospital for observation after complaining of head pain. Later, there was reassurance on Pat’s Instagram post that the fierce driver was okay.

In the video, you can see an inside view of the crash and how Lizzy takes control of the situation amidst total chaos.

“She got out of the car on her own and was taken to the hospital for observation and released,” Pat said.

No Quit

Proving there’s no quit in Lizzy, the Musi team, or the Bonnie Camaro, it only took Robert Hayes and his team two weeks to repair the car. Shortly after the announcement came the fire-up video, and Bonnie was off for testing ahead of Street Outlaws No Prep Kings at Rockingham Dragway. Of course, they had to get all the fresh decals applied for all the sponsors just in time to hit the road.

Rockingham is essentially now the Musi’s home track, so it was a packed house with tons of fans rooting for the team. The car performed well when they got to Rockingham, but (as there always are) they had a few bugs to work out. It also didn’t help that Lizzy had some bad luck in the chip draw, getting the dominating series champion Ryan Martin in the first round.

The current point standings show Lizzy sitting in 7th leading up to the next event in Steele, Alabama, on October 21-22. Stay tuned for more updates on Bonnie and the Musi team.
