For the 13th consecutive year, the SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced a U.S. Congressional Resolution officially marking July 8, 2002, as Collector Car Appreciation Day. Senate Resolution 271 and House Resolution 108 recognize that the “collection and restoration of historic and classic cars is an important part of preserving the technological achievements and cultural heritage of the United States,” according to the SEMA Action Network.

Intended to celebrate the classics of the past and the future, the U.S. Congress helped launch CCAD by passing resolutions each year since 2010 at the SAN’s request. Each resolution was sponsored by co-chairs of the SEMA-supported Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus. But it’s not just the United States — even some Canadian provinces have adopted similar declarations, making it an international affair.

Collector Car Appreciation Day celebrates cool cars of all genres and eras. From pre-war classics to modern tuner cars, off-road or on, the day’s purpose is to raise awareness of our hobby, so make sure you do something with your vehicle that day to show your support. The key ways to celebrate are to attend or host an official vehicle-inspired online or in-person event, highlight important cars and car people in your community on websites and social, or just get out and drive!

Organizers are encouraged to submit details of their event to the SAN at no cost. In return, any officially scheduled commemoration of America’s time-tested love affair with the automobile will receive a copy of the Congressional Resolution for display at their event. Even if you can’t host an event on July 8, the SAN encourages you to schedule something throughout the month of July.

“These Congressional leaders are strong advocates for the automotive hobby in Washington, D.C.,” the SEMA Action Network offered. “The Caucus is an informal, non-partisan member organization that pays tribute to America’s ever-growing love affair with the car and motorsports. They recognize the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation’s appreciation for the automobile’s unique historical place in our history. In fact, the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, West Virginia, Wisconsin, as well as most of the Canadian provinces officially marked the occasion.”

The Edelbrock Group of performance brands is encouraging its employees to drive their pride and joy to work and park them in a designated area for their coworkers to enjoy. What will you be doing for Collector Car Appreciation Day? We’d like to share in your celebrations, so please feel free to tag us in any of your activities and we might reshare them on our social pages! In addition to tagging us, the SAN asks everyone to use the hashtag #CCAD to help spread awareness of the commemoration on social media.
